Regenerative Medication Covered by Your Insurance

Some regenerative treatments are covered by your insurance. Ask us!
Regenerative medicine mimics the process your body uses when it heals a cut, scrape, or injury, but does it faster and more completely. The body’s own healing process works well for small injuries, such as a paper cut, but it can fail in larger injuries such as a rotator cuff tear. This is because the body’s healing process has a time limit and stops short of completely repairing a large injury. Our body’s healing process is faster when we are younger and slows as we age. That is why regenerative medicine can help to assist our body’s natural healing processes to finish what it started.

What is Regenerative Medicine?

Traditional steroid injections have been used to treat pain for over 50 years. The steroid is deposited at the target site, thus reducing inflammation that causes pain. Steroids do not heal damaged tissue such as tendon tears, loss of collagen, and ligament looseness, however. Most types of tissue can be healed including some types of nerve damage. Injuries such as rotator cuff tears, biceps tendon tears, Achilles tendon tears, as well as arthritic changes in knees may be helped by regenerative medicine treatments. What is interesting is that PRP, amnion, and stem cells all decrease inflammation by modulating and controlling the response of the immune system rather than inhibiting the response like NSAID’s and steroids do.
Regenerative medicine can restart the healing process even long after your body has forgotten about the injury. There are several regenerative products available:
Exosomes, a commercially prepared product, are similarly made from amniotic sac tissue. This is more useful for those over 45 years old. This is because exosomes help improve the communication network that tends to fail as we get older. This network mobilizes your stem cells while the proteins in the exosomes are released including growth factors and healing proteins.
A better version of prolotherapy is achieved with platelet rich plasma or PRP. PRP is made from your own blood right in our office.
Amnion, a commercially prepared product, is made from the amniotic sac tissue and is cleaned and screened. It contains about a 1000 times more growth factors than PRP.
For those under 45 years old, mesenchymal stem cells that can be harvested from your bone marrow. Stem cells are taken from the back of your pelvic bone. Instead of waiting for stem cells to come to the area of injury, your own stem cells are directly injected into that area. Wharton’s jelly is a commercially prepared young umbilical stem cell product that can be used for patients older than 45 years old.
The team at Southwest Pain Management uses only your own adult stem cells harvested from your own bone marrow or commercially prepared products. We never use any embryonic stem cells or any product created from aborted fetuses. If you are interested in regenerative medicine, contact the experts at Southwest Pain Management. We will decide together which of these options is the best one for you and your injury.

For depression, you must still continue to take your current antidepressants. If you have uncontrolled high blood pressure, seizures/epilepsy, or angina/heart disease, please let the team at Southwest Pain Management know because ketamine may be contraindicated.
If your insurance has coverage for Spravato ketamine nasal spray, the providers may be able to offer you this spray in-office, which has been approved for medication-resistant depression.
Ketamine infusions are currently not covered by any insurance plan. Please note that you will have to pay out-of-pocket for these.
Ketamine treatments may be right for you. Come see the experts at Southwest Pain Management to discuss ketamine therapy.
